About Slipstream

Slipstream is a neon runner you steer with the mouse. A floating track races toward the horizon on its own, and your craft sits under the mouse pointer. Move the mouse left and right to cross the track, up and down to lift off it and drop back. There is no throttle and nothing to click.

Obstacles come at you in rows. Get through the finish arch at the end of the level and the next one is faster and busier, with something new on each of the first eight levels: beams, windows, sliding pillars, spinners, drones and more.

How to play

  • Steer: move the mouse or touchpad. The craft follows the pointer quickly, but not instantly, so move early.
  • Shards always mark a way through the next row. You don't have to follow them, but they never lead you into anything.
  • A red cross on an obstacle means you will hit it if you stay where you are.
  • You have three shields. A hit costs one and makes you see-through for a moment.
  • Keyboard and gamepad work too (arrow keys or WASD), and on a phone you drag anywhere to steer. P pauses.

Scoring

  • One point for every metre you fly.
  • Shards are worth 10 and close calls (an obstacle passing within a hair of you) 25, both times your multiplier.
  • The multiplier goes up one step for every 8 shards and close calls in a row, up to ×8. Missing a shard drops it a step, and a hit resets it.
  • Reaching the finish pays 500 × the level. A level with no hits pays it twice and gives you a shield back.

Tips

  • Small mouse movements. The craft goes where the pointer is, so a big swing carries you too far.
  • Watch the shadow under the craft to judge your height over low walls.
  • Spinners keep turning as they come. Aim for where the gap will be, and the shard shows you where that is.
  • Close calls are worth the risk once your multiplier is high.

FAQ

Is it free? Do I need an account? It's free, paid for by ads. No account: you only type a name if you want to post a score.

Does it work on a phone? Yes, drag anywhere to steer, but it is made for a mouse.

Is every level the same for everyone? Yes. Each level is built from a fixed seed, so leaderboard scores compare the same levels.

What inspired it? Slope and the other browser runners where a track rushes at you, plus the neon-grid look of 1980s computer games. Steering with the mouse pointer is the twist.
