About Airshaft

A one-screen platformer in the tradition of 8-bit games like Manic Miner. You're a miner, and each cavern has a handful of lamps. Collect them all and the lift opens. Your air runs out while you work, guardians walk fixed routes, planks crumble under you and conveyor belts drag you along. You can't steer in mid-air, so every jump has to be aimed before you take it. Ten caverns, then it starts again, harder.

How to play

  • Desktop: ← β†’ or A/D to walk, Space, W or ↑ to jump.
  • Phone: three pads under the screen: left, right and jump.
  • Guardians, spikes and fungus kill you, and so does a long fall.
  • Air left when you reach the lift is worth points. Extra life every 10,000.

Tips

  • Plan the whole route before you move. Wandering costs air.
  • Watch a guardian go round once from somewhere safe. Its route never changes.
  • Line up jumps on the ground. You can't fix them in the air.
  • Crumbling planks only last a few visits. Use them once.

FAQ

Is it free? Do I need an account? It's free, paid for by ads. No account: you only type a name if you want to post a score.

Does it work on a phone? It does, with on-screen pads, but it's easier with a keyboard.

Is it a copy of an old game? No. The rules come from that era, but the caverns, art, music and code are new.
